ACUTA 2001 Institutional Excellence Award

The award for Institutional Excellence in Communications Technology is ACUTA's most prestigious award, recognizing communications technology excellence and professionalism.

In 2001, Texas A&M University and the University of Texas were selected for their collaborative efforts in jointly developing and supporting a statewide, higher-education-managed asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) backbone that supports high-speed Internet access, video, and voice services.

The network teams from these two separate universities worked together to co-manage operations as if they were one institution. This network provides the Internet access point for about 70 percent of all public institutions (other than state agencies) within Texas.
